Biography

Prof. Dr. Uğur Selek is one of Türkiye's foremost radiation oncologists, with a career that bridges two continents. He graduated from Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in 1997 and completed his radiation oncology residency at Hacettepe in 2001. That same year, he traveled to the United States for a clinical fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he trained from 2001 to 2003 in stereotactic radiosurgery, SBRT, and image-guided radiotherapy under some of the world's leading radiation oncologists.

After returning to Türkiye, he continued his academic career at Hacettepe University before joining Koç University as Professor in 2013. He now chairs the unique MD Anderson Radiation Oncology Center at VKV American Hospital — a collaboration that brings MD Anderson's treatment protocols, quality standards, and peer-review processes directly to İstanbul. This partnership is one of only a handful of its kind worldwide, and it enables patients in Türkiye to receive radiation therapy planned and reviewed according to the same standards used at MD Anderson in Houston.

Prof. Dr. Selek maintains his position as Adjunct Professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center, ensuring ongoing international collaboration, joint research projects, and regular peer review of complex cases. He has published extensively in high-impact radiation oncology journals and is a frequent invited speaker at ASTRO and ESTRO congresses. His clinical expertise spans SBRT for brain, lung, liver, and spine tumors, CyberKnife and TrueBeam treatments, and head and neck and prostate cancer radiotherapy.
